NYC Real Estate Tech Week is our City’s chance to host some of the world’s best PropTech founders, VCs, real estate innovation executives, universities/institutions, tech enthusiasts, service providers, and media. For the eighth consecutive year, MetaProp and a diverse set of event producers (including Propmodo, Builtworlds, PwC, MIPIM, Cooley, Columbia University, LMRE, Spaciously, and more) welcomed hundreds to Manhattan for a week committed to advancing digitization and decarbonization of the built environment. Participants hailed from NYC, regions across the US and Canada, Latin America, the UK, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain, Korea, China, and Japan.

The MetaProp Accelerator @ Columbia University Alumni Celebration presented by MIPIM and Cooley recognized the strides of companies that have participated in MetaProp’s Accelerator since 2015. At Propmodo’s PropTech Challenge & Boat Party, Thalo Labs clinched the top spot in a carbon capture challenge that saw 21 startups showcase their solutions for accurately evaluating a building's carbon footprint. Thank you, Rudin, NYSERDA, 5, and Propmodo for putting together this incredible event.

Builtwords’ ConstructionTech panel featured Zachi Flatto, Co-Founder of Skyline Cockpit; John Cerone, Principal at SHoP Architects; Carter Kennedy, CEO of SoloInsight; and Roger Krulak, Founder of FullStack Modular. The group explored today's major trends and themes in building technology, design, modular housing, and construction.

The Norwegian PropTech Mini Summit, held at the Norwegian Consulate building in Manhattan, gathered PropTech leaders from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and the US. This event served as a platform for fostering connections between US and Nordic real estate developers, PropTech startups, and VCs, enhancing cross-border PropTech collaboration.

LMRE’s Poker & PropTech event attracted over 30 PropTech founders for an evening of networking & poker at PropTech Place.

Skyline Cockpit’s Future of Crains demo showcased a tech-enabled command and control center that is revolutionizing the management of tower cranes and construction sites.

The Women in Real Estate Tech Lunch and Learn, hosted by Spaciously, encouraged connections and collaboration among women in the PropTech sector.

The MetaProp and Columbia Business School PropTech Summit featured fireside chats led by Zach Aarons and included contributions from Columbia Business School Professors Tomasz Pieskorski and Christopher Munsell, as well as Kristin Svenningsen, the Director of the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate.

In addition to fourteen New York City Real Estate Tech Week events, MetaProp hosted its Annual General Meeting for investors. A new two-day format gave the global investor group a chance to meet our portfolio’s most innovative startup CEOs, learn more about MetaProp funds’ investment performance, hear the latest on global PropTech markets, network with peers, and see/taste the best of New York City.

Highlights from MetaProp’s 2023 Annual General Meeting:

Kicking off at Yankee Stadium, we had the opportunity to walk along the iconic field's warning tracks, immerse ourselves in Yankees history, and even swing a bat once used by Babe Ruth. The evening continued to the iconic Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, where dinner and drinks were overshadowed by an impromptu session of “PropTech table trivia.”

Tuesday saw our group gather in Rockefeller Center for MetaProp’s Annual General Meeting of fund investors.  Presentations covered investment and portfolio highlights for each MetaProp fund. In addition, investors benefited from networking sessions and educational programming run by several MetaProp portfolio CEOs and advisors including:

  1. Automating the Real Estate Back Office with Advocate and Maybern
  2. Scaling Real Estate Services with Managed Marketplaces with Source and Pest Share
  3. Developments in AI and Large Language Models with PwC’s Head of Generative AI, Joe Harrington, and MetaProp Venture Advisor Jeff Schacher

Now that we’ve had the time to take in the experience and learnings from the week, it’s time to sit down and put together the 2024 NYC Real Estate Tech Week strategy.
