MetaProp Accelerates its Growth in APAC Region with Appointment of Industry Leader Satoshi Murakami as Director

The global PropTech investor backed by prestigious APAC limited partners opens its first Asian presence and announces plans for APAC regional summits.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - September 7, 2022 - MetaProp - the world’s leading venture capital (VC) firm focused on the PropTech industry - today shared their plans to accelerate the firm’s growth in the APAC region by appointing industry leader Satoshi Murakami as Region Director. Murakami joins the firm after spending the past four years as Director of Corporate Venture Capital group at Sumitomo Corporation, as well as various roles in its Real Estate Division, focused on commercial real estate development in Asia Pacific.

By bringing a full complement of real estate and tech expertise as well as relationships in Asia, Murakami will help accelerate MetaProp’s APAC PropTech growth and support the firm in their effort to increase investments in the region, where the growth of early-stage PropTech companies expands every day.

“Our firm is the connective tissue between the real estate industry and the PropTech innovations that will shape the future of the built environment,” said MetaProp Co-Founder and Managing Partner Aaron Block. “Our global footprint, including our work with partners in China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore,  and Thailand - provides a unique look at the APAC market and a keen understanding of the technology poised to disrupt and advance real estate today. This institutional knowledge, coupled with Satoshi Murakami’s vast experience on the frontlines of both technology and real estate will strengthen the ways we support the growing APAC ecosystem and drive greater investments in the region.”

Prior to MetaProp, Murakami led the strategic transformation of Sumitomo Corporation, one of the largest trading companies in Japan. In this role, he established the Real Estate Innovation Strategy Team and accelerated startup investments in Japan. He also explored commercial development opportunities in APAC including Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

“I’ve spent the past decade passionately embracing innovation and technology around the transformation of the commercial real estate industry. From workflow automation to strategic partnerships that help accelerate and  scale processes and businesses, I believe we are at a tipping point,” said Satoshi Murakami, Director of MetaProp’s APAC region. “Joining MetaProp gives me the opportunity to fulfill my passion and play a strategic role in the global expansion of MetaProp. With our aligned values across data and relationships, this opportunity perfectly captures how I see the future of the world. It couldn’t be a better fit.”

Murakami majored in architectural design at Keio University, also worked at SANAA, established by Kazuyo Sejima, who won the prestigious Pritzker Award in architectural design.

As MetaProp grows its presence in the region, the firm is planning a series of regional APAC Summits for founders and investors to connect with each other and MetaProp’s leadership team. Summit locations include Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo.  Learn more about upcoming summits here.
